1. For this tutorial you will need a flag, created by yourself or you can download four flags from my page. I am going to show you no how to create flag, but how to make it little more realistic. Before start, Make sure that your flag is in separate layer. You should have background layer and layer with flag.
 2. OK! Let's begin! Enlarge your canvas Image>Canvas Size so it's at least two times bigger than flag. Now press [CTRL + A] to select all image, activate layer with flag and cut it out by pressing [CTRL + X]. Now paste it on the same layer [CTRL + V]. Now is your flag exactly in the middle of the image. Rotate the flag about 90° Edit>Transform>Rotate 90° CW. Start filter Shear Filter>Distort>Shear and set it similar to mine. |
3. When you have your flag distorted, rotate it back Edit>Transform>Rotate 90° CCW. Choose polygonal lasso tool and select right side of the flag.
4. Press [CTRL + X] and then [CTRL + V] to cut right side and paste it to new layer. Order this new layer under the first layer. Move the right side of the flag little bit left and down so it look like on the image on the left.
5. Zoom this part of image and choose the eraser tool from tool box. Now erase the top corner of the flag. This will need a little practice but it's no so tough.
6. Repeat step five with left side of the flag.
7. Now we have to mask that blue line in the middle of the flag. First make sure you have checked preserve transparency in the layer palette. Choose white color and using paintbrush tool, round off top of the blue line. Do the same with the bottom of the blue line, but this time use blue color.
8. Using pen tool, create shape like mine. Then switch to paths palette Window>Show Paths and make selection from this path by clicking on this icon . Make sure that current layer is layer with left side of the flag and press [CTRL + J]. This will make a new layer from the selection. Order this layer above other layers. Your layer order now should look like is it on the right side.
9. For final touches check the preserve transparency in each layer and select airbrush tool. Set pressure to 10. Pick black color and add shadows where you think they should be. Then pick white color to add highlights for more realistic look. Merge theese three layers to one, add drop shadow and enjoy :))
